Here’s the reality: if you don’t have your own health, everything else can feel impossible. You have to have that baseline, or you’re going to hit a brick wall and attempt to keep going. (This is not a good thing.)

I think, as mothers, we often pride ourselves on our ability to keep going when things are hard. Right? Things feel impossible, but we keep going. Lunches have to get packed, bottles have to get washed, tiny tantrums have to be handled, and oh yeah, someone’s gotta make dinner. As moms, we get shit done. It has to be done, so we step up because we love our little ones more than anything in the world, and we’re willing to do that for them. This is incredible, and we should be commended for that.

At the same time, we cannot push forever without having a full-on breakdown. If you’re not sleeping, not eating, not moving your body, not taking care of your hygiene, things will fall apart. That is reality.

So, what do we do? I mean, what do we do practically? How do we find the energy to take care of ourselves on top of everyone else? Forget that. How do we find the time?

We start small. Create a solid foundation that we can actually build on. Develop habits and pick up tools to help us.

That’s what Bonafide Motherhood is all about.

We believe:

Motherhood is different for everyone: No one mother is the same, just as no one kid is the same. We want to acknowledge those important differences and create a site that caters to everyone. Ultimately, this means a strong belief in kindness.

An inclusive space is essential: We want to welcome all mothers and parents. We feel it’s also important to be specific and say that LGBTQIA+ are welcome here, and black lives matter.

Quality is so important: This means two things. One, we want to provide good articles that are helpful to our readers, so we will do our best never to publish something that doesn’t serve them. Two, we will never recommend a product that we haven’t done our research on or don’t believe in. This also means not recommending products we think you don’t need or aren’t helpful.

About the Founder, Erin

This blog has gone through many iterations, but the main goal has always remained the same: I want to be as helpful as possible. My focus has shifted over the years, but that’s stayed the same.

My bonafides? I’ve got three sons under five, a household to manage, and a long history of effectively managing my mental health.
